Spotten is a website that connects people looking for availabile spots, and the people that has this spot available. They provide booking of both parkingspots and storage.
Spotten is a commercial project
The goal of Spotten is to simplify the process of finding availabile parkingspots or storage in your own neighbourhood. This is highly valuable in larger cities where apartment buildings are the most common way to live.
Find a spot close to your home!
I had a splitted role in this project. The tasks I had were:
1. Sales process
For me, this project started off from the very beginning. I was involved after the first custommer contact, and started to work on an offer based on the customers needs and their ambitions for the platform. When creating an offer, or a proposal, I make sure to include a thorough explanation to what our solution will be for the project, the time-frame we intend to have the different modules done, and of course a price extimate.
The offer sent to the customer contained:
An offer document containing info about suggested solution.
A CTR (Cost, Time, Resources) document explaining all costs of the project.
2. Project management
I was not the initial project manager of this project, but a few weeks in I had to step in. The chosen project management framework was the Waterfall method. This means that we do not start any new tasks until the last one is completed.
A project that seemed to be under control for a while took an unexpected turn when the designer started a new job, and was no longer able to complete the project. I therefore had to make the hard decision to break the original plan of a waterfall method, and let the development start before all of the design was completed. We had to change the project into more agile development.
At the time of writing this, the project is still under development. By handling the customer contact in a professional manner, they were happy with the change in designer and the project methodology.
3. Designer
As the main designer had to leave, we were left with unfinished designs, and some parts of the platform that were not even started.
Luckily, we had another designer that could do the unfinished design. As the project manager, it was my responsibility to get everuthing sorted out, and in order to get the designs finished, I stepped in on the un-started parts of the project.
One of the things that had to be designed was a temporary landing page for Spotten. As we already had a visual identity, I could quickly create a design based on the clients brand, and their wishes.
It took me about two days to complete the design, and after a week, the website was live. The website is in the clients hands, and has been changed after the initial design and development.
I also had to create the design for the administrator dashboard. In this dashboard, the admins should be able to see all users, their details, rental agreements, chat logs, payments, etc.
The dashboard was something we did not intend to use a lot of time on, so there were no other UX-thinking than the "common sense" that always plays a big part in my design-decisions.
However, the dashboard turned out to be relatively good UX wise.
That´s it! Thank you for reading.
